The new MacBook Air has a bigger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina Display and narrower black bezels on all sides. It supports 1 billion colours and has a brightness of 500 nits, making it 25% brighter than previously. It is 11.3mm thick, making it somewhat slimmer than the previous-generation MacBook Air. The MacBook Air has two USB-C ports, a MagSafe port for charging, and a 3.5mm headphone socket with compatibility for high-impedance headphones. While the M2 CPU is still a 5-nanometer chip like the M1, it has been improved using second-generation 5-nanometer technology. The upgraded technology has raised the number of transistors in the M2 chip to 20 billion, a 25% increase over the M1 device.
According to Apple, the extra transistors boost functions across the CPU. For example, the memory controller can now provide 100 GBs of unified memory bandwidth, a 50% increase over the M1.
